Briefly
Kim Hjort is a research agricultural economist in the Agricultural Policy and Models Branch in the Market and Trade Economics Division. She works on international trade issues and the 10-year USDA agricultural outlook projections. Her work is primarily focused on modeling the agricultural markets of foreign countries, especially Brazil and India. Kim’s current research includes empirical specification of crop planting decisions, land use decisions, and food and feed demand.
Background
Kim rejoined USDA, Economic Research Service in 2009 after an 11-year hiatus spent advising senior Government officials of countries acceding to the World Trade Organization. Her efforts were focused on compliance with agriculture-related requirements of accession, including in particular the Agriculture, Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures, Technical Barriers to Trade, and Import Licensing Agreements.
